T-

I saw your post for Friday night. Poetry and wine, not much missing from that equation, though I suppose one could always think of something else to add. Please post more pictures, you take beautiful photographs, and the scenery is good too.

It sounds like you’re surviving this season in proper fashion. My classes are nearly finished and I am looking forward to taking sabbatical this year. I will have some time to do research on the new book and also teach a course abroad. In fact we leave in July. I have finished with the Milton project. I so appreciate your support and your reading the pages I sent.

I wrote this poem today- bad or good, it’s yours

How would you do an impression
Of one quite different from yourself?
Of yeses
Instead of cannot, no time, wouldn’t dare

Off in the hinterland
instead of this strait,
this narrowest of avenues
with its accounted-for hours

If you (at a foreign helm) got to turn the ship
To the stormy north
Or the balmy south
And step into skins of shining adventure
How would those words feel in your mouth?
strange wind on your tongue
Would pretending eyes see more of the map?
